Brett Froomer, a commercial director/dp for @radical.media has been integrating the 5DM2 as a principal production tool. He shot a personal project with the 5DM2. The concept was to have two twenty-something friends in a car talking about whatever twenty-somethings would talk about. The editorial for the project was done at Outpost Digital. The finished edit was delivered to Lightpress as a self contained ProRes422 Quicktime file for color grading on the iQ Pablo. 5DM2 footage provides an element with limited latitude for color correction. It’s not going to be possible to pull detail out areas were luminance is clipped, it’s a lot like like using reversal film stock. Provided the color balance has not been shifted to an extreme you still have good flexibility to make color balance adjustments. Issues for the color grade on Brett’s project were to fine tune the color continuity and clean up some of the low light sensor noise.
