The transfer was done as a dailies pass and I never had the chance to apply a final grade on the finished edit until now. A good base grade was built into the dailies and all that was needed for the final was a bit of polish on the color continuity. The only element of the final edit available to me was a NTSC DVCAM which I upconverted to 1080 23.98 HD and captured as a ProRes HQ file. The final grade was done on DaVinci Resolve.

Split screen below shows before and after colorgrade.

This year’s Paul Rodriguez Nike Skateboarding spots were challenging. The project was shot with different camera technologies on multiple days on multiple trips to Barcelona -- over different seasons. Beyond the need to connect the look of these broadcast spots with Nike’s established print campaign, this finish was all about letting the images run together without distracting differences…differences that would take any of the viewer’s attention away from the Paul’s performance.

The color treatment for "Royal" focused on muting all colors except blue hues. Color keys were built to desaturate all colors except blue. A separate key was made for blue to allow for increasing its saturation.

The treatment for "Rasta" consisted of forcing as much saturation into each scene as possible. Overall the color balance was pushed extremely warm with the shadows pushed slightly blue to move the balance away from a sepia tone.

In celebration of their 20th Anniversary, Pearl Jam will debut Pearl Jam Twenty, a portrait of the band as told by filmmaker and music journalist, Cameron Crowe. The film will premiere at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday September 10, 2011. Pearl Jam Twenty will then have it's U.S. television premiere Friday, October 21st at 9 p.m. (ET/PT), as part of the PBS “American Masters” series.

PJ20 source elements consisted of VHS,Umatic,S8,16mm,35mm and digital files. Our Quantel iQ was the perfect platform to assemble theses disparate elements for the conform and colorgrade. One of the challenges finishing the film was getting availability with the director to come to Seattle for final approval of the colorgrade, type and graphic treatments. The solution was to archive out the project from our iQ and bring it down to one of the iQ systems at Fotokem in Hollywood. The adjustments were made with the director and the project was brought back to Seattle for the final deliverables. Final delivery will be 35mm print, HDCamSR 23.98 and 29.97, PAL and NTSC digibeta.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://lightpress.tv/lpwork/2011/6/15/alaska-airlinesportland-timbers.html"><rss:title>Alaska Airlines\Portland Timbers</rss:title><rss:link>http://lightpress.tv/lpwork/2011/6/15/alaska-airlinesportland-timbers.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject></dc:subject>

"Announcement"

Agency: Wong, Doody, Crandall, Wiener
Directors: Jack and Carol Hodge / Alarming Pictures
DP: Steve McGehee
Editor: Kelly Vander Linda / Collective
Color Grade: Jeff Tillotson / Lightpress Conform: Shane Dillon / Lightpress
